Overview
The ampEducator Data Warehouse gives your institution direct access to your reporting data using industry-standard analytics tools. Instead of relying solely on built-in reports, you can connect directly to your data using SQL, create dashboards in Power BI or Tableau, or download CSV files for analysis in your preferred software.
The Data Warehouse is designed for institutions that require deeper reporting, business intelligence, or custom analytics beyond what standard reports provide.
Why Use the Data Warehouse?
The Data Warehouse allows your institution to:
- Create custom SQL queries
- Build dashboards in Power BI, Tableau, or other BI platforms
- Download nightly CSV exports
- Combine ampEducator data with other institutional data sources
- Perform advanced reporting and analytics
- Access curated reporting tables optimized for analysis
Unlike the live operational database, the Data Warehouse is specifically designed for reporting. Data is organized into a set of curated tables that are easier to query and optimized for analytics.
Enabling the Data Warehouse
The Data Warehouse is available as an optional add-on and must be enabled for your institution.
Once enabled, ampEducator automatically:
- Creates your institution's secure Data Warehouse environment
- Generates your unique access credentials
- Configures nightly data exports
- Makes your reporting data available for SQL queries and CSV downloads
Note: After the Data Warehouse is first enabled, data will not be immediately available. The initial export is generated during the next overnight processing cycle.
Accessing the Data Warehouse
Once enabled, navigate to:
Reports → Data Warehouse
From this page you can:
- View your connection credentials
- Access SQL connection details (Amazon Athena)
- Access CSV download credentials (Amazon S3)
- View setup instructions for supported software
- Copy credentials directly into your reporting tools
Two Ways to Access Your Data
The Data Warehouse supports two methods of accessing your institution's data.
SQL Queries (Recommended)
Connect directly using Amazon Athena with any compatible SQL client or business intelligence platform.
Common tools include:
- DBeaver
- Power BI
- Tableau
- Microsoft Excel
- Python
- Any JDBC or ODBC compatible software
This option is ideal for interactive reporting, dashboards, and custom analytics.
CSV Downloads
If you prefer working with files instead of SQL, the Data Warehouse also exports your reporting tables as CSV files every night.
These files can be downloaded directly from secure cloud storage and imported into virtually any reporting or analytics application.

Rather than exposing every table from the live database, the Data Warehouse focuses on the information most commonly required for reporting and business intelligence, making it significantly easier to work with.
