Data Warehouse
Connecting to BI Tools
the data warehouse gives you access to a centralized data warehouse that can be used with a variety of reporting and analytics tools you can connect to your data using amazon athena (recommended) — for querying data using sql direct access to parquet files in amazon s3 (advanced use cases) both options provide access to the same underlying data when the data warehouse is enabled, your data is securely exported from the platform and stored in a structured data warehouse this data is organized into simplified tables (such as dw students, dw prospects, etc ) and updated daily instead of connecting directly to the ampeducator system, you access this data through amazon athena or your bi tool this allows you to run reports and queries without impacting your live system’s performance connection options amazon athena (recommended) amazon athena provides a simple, sql based way to access your data and is the recommended option for most users why use athena? no infrastructure setup required query using standard sql works with most bi tools provides access to clean, structured tables typical workflow log in to amazon athena (via aws) select your institution’s database query tables such as dw student overview dw prospects dw student financial summary direct parquet access (advanced) for more advanced use cases, institutions can access the raw parquet files stored in amazon s3 when this might be useful building custom data pipelines loading data into another data warehouse (e g , bigquery, snowflake) data science or machine learning workflows what to expect data is organized by table (dw ) in s3 files are stored in parquet format schema is managed within your chosen tool supported bi tools most modern bi tools connect to the data warehouse through amazon athena microsoft power bi connection method amazon athena connector or odbc how to connect open power bi desktop select get data → amazon athena enter your aws credentials select your database and tables best for dashboards scheduled reports sharing insights tableau connection method amazon athena via odbc or native connector best for visual analytics interactive dashboards looker / looker studio connection method athena via jdbc/odbc or connectors best for modeled analytics embedded dashboards qlik sense / qlikview connection method athena via odbc best for interactive exploration complex data analysis metabase connection method athena compatible (presto/trino driver) best for self service analytics internal reporting getting started the data warehouse is available as an add on feature for a flat monthly fee to enable it, please contact our support team at mailto\ support\@ampeducator com next steps explore the available datasets and example queries docid\ wnunql02lsdb1o7g a8qz docid 2hwk9jckeqa3xs21to1ru you can also review docid\ ptudjpwbbjsb18lwlhzo3
