Gradebook
the gradebook tab allows you to view and manage student grades for the course in one place you can enter marks, review performance, add comments, and see final calculated grades based on your grading schema whether grades are entered manually or automatically, the gradebook makes it easy to track student progress, identify who may need extra support, and ensure all assessments are accounted for detailed instructions for marking each assessment type are covered in the lms overview docid\ vxrxskawykotma8orzcja section, but this section will show you what you can do directly from the gradebook when you open the gradebook tab in a course, you’ll see a table showing all enrolled students and their progress here's a quick overview of what’s displayed student info each row shows the student’s name, id, and a profile photo (if uploaded), with a magnifying glass icon to view grade details final % displays the calculated final grade based on the course’s grading schema overrides will be flagged assessments columns include items like discussions, tests, and evaluations grades may show as completed (green), incomplete (red), failing (outlined in red), or left blank if no grade has been entered group totals weighted group averages (e g , tests / 25) are shown under each category search & filter tools use the search bar to find students or apply filters to narrow your view save button appears after you make changes—click it to apply any updates grade groups if you’ve configured grade groups under course details docid\ zq4lrbwv1nirwxii0 6qc , your gradebook will display columns grouped into categories like discussions, tests, evaluations, and assignments each group shows the raw mark and the weighted contribution to the final grade for example, if tests are worth 25% of the course grade, the group total for each student will show how much they’ve earned out of that 25 this structure makes it easier to manage grading and quickly see how students are performing across different components of the course viewing and managing grades each column in the gradebook represents an assessment as students complete assessments, their marks will appear here along with tags like completed , submitted on time , or visual cues like red outlines for low scores clicking the assessment title at the top of a column enables grading mode for linked assessments, this reveals a clipboard icon beside each student’s mark clicking this icon opens a modal where you can review, comment on, or override the grade for unlinked assessments, you can simply type the score directly into the box these unlinked items are usually used when there’s no digital submission or lms connection—just a simple grade entry based on your own criteria if you make any changes, be sure to click the green save button at the top of the page to apply them opening the grading modal when you click the clipboard icon next to a student’s grade, a grading modal will open what you see inside will depend on the type of assessment discussions, tests, assignments, and evaluations each have different layouts however, this is the space where you can always enter or update a mark override the grade if needed change the status (such as marking something complete or incomplete) leave a comment or feedback for the student once you’ve made your changes, click save grading with rubrics you can grade with rubrics directly from the gradebook for three kinds of items assignments , discussions , and assessments with no grade link type (stand alone rubric items you created without linking to an lms submission) from the gradebook , click the assessment title to enable grading opening the rubric for assignments and discussions , use the clipboard icon beside a student to open the grading modal it opens on student submissions so you can preview or download work; then scroll to feedback & mark to see the rubric inline for assessments with no grade link type , click the rubric icon in the gradebook to open edit student grade rubric grading and feedback select one level for each criterion by clicking the description cells, or type a score in the box on the right—totals update automatically and any criteria weights you configured are applied with points / percentage rubrics, your selections fill the criteria mark field automatically, and you can still manually adjust the mark before saving if level ranges are enabled, choosing a level sets a default within that band and you can fine tune the score for that criterion; typing a value outside the band moves the selection to the matching level if ranges are off, each level maps to a fixed value with none / feedback only , your selections record comments only and do not set a grade if a numeric grade is needed, enter it manually in the modal for linked assignments and discussions if the item has no grade link type —save the rubric and type the value directly in the gradebook cell, then click the green save at the top of the page viewing individual student grades to view a detailed breakdown for one student, scroll to the far right of the gradebook and click the magnifying glass at the end of the student’s row this opens a full view of that student’s grades, organized by category, showing the mark, the weighted contribution, and any comments you’ve added from here, the clipboard icon beside a linked assignment or discussion still opens the grading modal; inside that modal, scroll to feedback & mark to view or update the rubric or grade and then save your changes (check marked if you want to publish) if a rubric was attached to the item, you may also see a rubric icon next to the grade—clicking it takes you straight to the rubric (for items with no grade link type , it opens edit student grade rubric ) use whichever shortcut you prefer to review the rubric, adjust levels or scores, add feedback, and save viewing student grade history to see a record of changes made to a specific grade, click the small clock icon next to the assessment item this will open the grade history for that particular grade the history shows a complete log of edits, including the date and time of each update, who made the change, the grade that was entered, and any comments that were added it’s a helpful way to track edits, review past feedback, or confirm whether a grade has been changed since it was originally entered assign no grade at the bottom of the individual student grade breakdown, you’ll see the option to assign no grade this allows you to exempt a student from receiving a final grade for the course while still tracking their performance by default, the option available is 'e' exempt (credit earned) , which can be used in cases where the student has completed the learning but doesn’t require a final grade—for example, if they’re auditing the course or completing it for credit recognition only you can create additional customized reasons in reasons docid\ wztrffv45cult6kbclibq to better reflect the scenarios relevant to your institution override final if a student’s calculated final grade needs to be adjusted, you can use the override final option this is found just below the final grade display in the gradebook view for an individual student to override a grade, check the override final box this will activate a field where you can enter a new grade between 0 and 100%, along with a required reason for the override this reason provides context and is saved for future reference overridden grades will display in the gradebook and on the transcript as the official final mark, replacing the calculated average if the course is linked to an external lms and external final is enabled, you can also override a synced final grade using this same option the new grade and reason will be flagged as an override, and the grade will remain in place unless the override is cleared this feature allows you to handle exceptions or custom grading without disrupting the rest of the synced grades video walkthrough course gradebook overview
