Tests
ampEducator offers an efficient and secure way to create, assign, and grade tests within the platform. Tests can be automatically graded for specific question types, such as multiple-choice, and manually graded for open-ended questions. With customizable settings and integrated proctoring tools, ampEducator ensures that tests are secure, fair, and seamlessly integrated into your courses.
To get started with creating a test in ampEducator, navigate to Home and select Tests. From there, click on New Test to begin setting up your test.
There are five question types you can choose from when creating your test:
- Multiple Choice: A question where students select one correct answer from several options.
- Multiple Select: Similar to Multiple Choice, but students can select more than one correct answer.
- Matching: A question where students match items from two lists (e.g., matching terms with their definitions).
- Fill in the Blanks: A question where students complete the statement by filling in missing words or numbers.
- Open Ended: A question where students write a text-based answer, typically used for longer responses.
You can fully customize your test by adding multiple sections, with each section containing any combination of question types. The choice is entirely up to you, allowing for a flexible and personalized test structure. For each question, you can assign a point value, which determines its weight in the overall test score. ampEducator will automatically calculate the total points based on the individual values of each question.
As you build your test, you have the option to preview it or download it as a PDF. This allows you to see the final layout before it's made available to students. If you need to make changes after creating the test, you can easily edit the test, reorder questions, or even copy the test to create similar versions for different courses.
When creating or editing a test, you can choose to format questions using rich text rather than plain text. Switching to rich text allows you to add more advanced formatting options, including the ability to insert images, tables, and hyperlinks directly into your questions.
With rich text, you can:
- Add images to illustrate questions or provide visual context.
- Use bold, italics, and underlining to emphasize key points.
- Include numbered or bulleted lists for structured responses.
- Add hyperlinks to external resources.
- Insert tables or special characters for more detailed explanations.

Test Tags allow you to organize and filter tests across your courses. Admins can create and manage global tags, which can then be assigned to individual tests. Tags can be used to categorize tests by subject, difficulty, or any other relevant criteria, ensuring tests are well-organized and easily accessible.
Creating and Managing Tags
To create a new tag, navigate to the Tests section and select the Tags tab. Click on New Tag, where you can give the tag a name, choose a color, and add a description. Once you're done, click Add to create the tag.
Assigning Tags to Tests
You can assign tags when creating a new test or by editing an existing one. In the Test Tags dropdown, you can select the tags you want to associate with the test. It’s possible to assign multiple tags to a single test, making it easier to categorize and filter your tests according to various criteria.
Filtering Tests by Tags
When adding tests to courses, you can filter the test list with the Test Tabs dropdown menu. This feature makes it easier to locate and select specific tests.
Tags are also available for filtering when viewing tests in the Test List, improving the organization and management of your tests.
To include a Test you’ve created in a course, you must add it from the course’s Grading Schema. For more detailed information, refer to the LMS / Tests section.
