Proctoring Tools
You can connect ampEducator with external proctoring services to help ensure the integrity of student testing. Configuration is done in Institution Config / Courses / Proctoring. There are currently two options to choose from: Microsoft Secure Assessment and Smarter Services.

Microsoft Secure Assessment is a Windows-based solution suitable for local, lower-stakes testing. It works only on Windows devices; if students use other operating systems, the test will still load, but without secure proctoring. It’s a lightweight option with minimal setup, ideal for schools looking to add a layer of control during on-campus testing.
Smarter Services is a third-party proctoring solution designed for broader use cases, including remote or higher-stakes assessments. It offers more advanced monitoring features and works across platforms, making it a good fit for institutions needing a more comprehensive proctoring solution.
To enable online proctoring in ampEducator, navigate to Institution Config / Courses / Proctoring. Start by checking Yes next to Proctor Enabled. This will unlock the ability to choose from supported proctoring services in the Proctor dropdown.

Currently, you can select either Microsoft Secure Assessment or Smarter Services. Once a provider is selected, additional configuration fields will appear depending on your choice.
Microsoft Secure Assessment is a built-in test service on Windows devices, best suited for local or low-stakes tests. It ensures that students can only access the test environment, preventing other applications or internet usage. However, it is only supported on Windows. Students using macOS, ChromeOS, or other operating systems will be directed to the test without proctoring enabled.
If you choose Microsoft Secure Assessment from the dropdown, you’ll see the following optional configuration options:

- Text Suggestions – Enable or disable suggestions like predictive text during the test.
- Printing – Allow or restrict printing during the test session.
- Screen Capture – Allow or restrict the ability to take screenshots.
- Enforce Lockdown – If enabled, the student’s device will enter lockdown mode to prevent access to other apps or browsers.
- End on Error – If enabled, the test will automatically end if a disruption is detected in the secure environment (e.g. the student disables the secure service).
After clicking Save & Test, a confirmation message will appear at the top of the screen if the proctoring setup was successfully updated and tested.

Smarter Services is a third-party proctoring tool designed for more robust, cloud-based remote testing. It is ideal for higher-stakes assessments where identity verification, screen monitoring, and test integrity are essential.
If you select Smarter Services from the dropdown, you’ll be prompted to enter the following credentials provided by Smarter Services:

- API Key – The API key assigned to your institution for integration.
- Install SID – The installation-specific ID for your Smarter Services account.
- Access Key – The access key used to authenticate the connection between ampEducator and Smarter Services.
Click Save & Test to confirm the connection. If successful, a confirmation message will appear.

Once a Student starts a student test, they will be redirected to SmarterServices for onboarding and then redirected back to ampEducator to complete the test.
