the attendance tab in a course provides a clear and organized way to manage student attendance from here, you can mark students as present, absent, or late, add notes, track totals for absences and hours, view detailed records, apply penalties, and generate attendance reports configuring attendance the recommended way to set up attendance events is in course details docid\ zq4lrbwv1nirwxii0 6qc , where you can view and manage all events for the course in one place you can also add events directly from the attendance tab if needed to do this, click more actions and select add attendance event this opens the same add attendance events window as in course details for detailed instructions on filling out this window, see course details docid\ zq4lrbwv1nirwxii0 6qc taking attendance attendance events for the current week appear across the top of the attendance tab to begin, click on the event date the box will turn green, showing that it is selected and ready to take attendance once the event is selected, you can record attendance for each student attendance options click the icons beside a student’s name to set their status as present or absent when a student is marked present , two more options become available you can select l (late) to mark the student as late instead of fully present the default number of minutes that counts as late is set in defaults docid\ rmswv6 szws4vsxf7muei you can also apply a penalty the available penalties are defined in attendance penalties docid\ dxhv1xki2rnc bdsoqpft when a student is marked absent , you’ll see the option for authorized absence (a) , which removes the absence from attendance calculations notes the last option in the row of attendance icons is the notes icon to add a note, the student must first be marked as either present or absent once selected, you can click the notes icon to open a text field and enter details about the student’s attendance for that specific event after saving, the notes icon changes to orange, showing that a note has been added you can click the icon again at any time to re open the field, view the note, or update it quick actions at the top of each attendance event, you’ll see three quick action icons these allow you to apply the same status to all students at once ✔ mark everyone present ✖ mark everyone absent ➖ clear all attendance for the event these shortcuts are useful when most students share the same status, or if you need to quickly clear entries after making a mistake, such as marking the wrong day’s attendance viewing detailed attendance records on the far right of the attendance tab, you’ll see the view attendance details icon (magnifying glass) for each student clicking this icon opens a detailed view of that student’s attendance for the course the detailed view is divided into four sections, shown in the right hand menu attendance, evaluations, make up, and totals attendance this section lists every attendance event for the student, including their status (present, absent, late, or authorized absence), minutes attended, penalties, hours, notes, and the last updated time you can also adjust the default late minutes for an event, update attendance statuses, and edit notes directly from this view the full history gives you a complete record of the student’s attendance for the course at the bottom of the section, there is a green save button you must press this button to confirm and apply any changes made to individual attendance events next to the save button is the update selected option this allows you to update multiple attendance events at once to do this, select the checkbox to the left of one or more events, then click update selected a modal will appear where you can adjust the attendance status, late minutes, and penalties for all selected records together evaluation attendance the evaluation attendance section displays attendance records for evaluations after they have been completed to track evaluation attendance, the evaluation must first be created in evaluations docid\ vbwpffcyqvdbv6nuo4nrh and then added to the course grading schema in course details docid\ zq4lrbwv1nirwxii0 6qc after this setup, completed evaluations will appear in this section each record displays the date, the evaluation name, the student’s attendance status (such as present, late, or absent), the number of hours recorded, any penalties applied, and any notes that were added you can also update evaluation attendance directly from here clicking the edit student evaluation icon will open the evaluation modal from there, you can view or edit details such as the attendance hours, late status, penalties, and notes, along with the evaluation grading details make up attendance the make up attendance section allows you to record additional attendance hours for a student, often used to make up for missed classes or to add supplementary instructional time to add new make up attendance, click the add make up attendance button a modal will appear where you can enter the required details, including the attendance date and the number of attendance hours to be credited you can also add a note if needed to explain the reason for the make up time once you click add , the record will appear in the make up attendance list, showing the date, hours, notes, and the last time the entry was updated if changes are needed, you can use the edit icon to update the entry or the delete icon to remove it attendance totals the attendance totals section provides a summary of a student’s attendance across the course it shows the total number of classes attended, classes missed, classes marked late, and the total hours completed in some cases, you may need to adjust these totals manually to do this, check the override attendance box when this option is selected, you must enter a reason in the override reason field, and the totals will become editable after making changes, click save to update the records generating attendance reports you can generate an attendance report for a course directly from the attendance tab to begin, click on the more actions button and select generate attendance report this will open the generate course attendance report modal here you can set the starting and ending weeks for the report, choose the page orientation, and decide how the report should be sorted (for example, by last name in ascending order) you can also select whether to include notes, and filter by student status—such as enrolled, completed, incomplete, or withdrawn once your options are set, you can generate the report in your preferred format pdf, csv, or xml
