Grading Scale

In Institution Config / Courses / Grading, you can define how grades are structured in ampEducator. This section includes both the Course Grading Scale, which sets the default letter grades, percentages, and grade point values, and Custom Grading Scales, which allow institutions to create their own grading structures.

Important: New courses will automatically use the default Course Grading Scale. You can change the grading scale at the course level later if needed by assigning a custom grading scale.

Course Grading Scale

The Course Grading Scale allows institutions to define how letter grades correspond to percentage ranges and grade point averages (GPA). This scale is used to calculate final grades and GPAs based on assigned percentages.

  • You can disable any letter grade that your institution does not use.
  • Each letter grade represents a range between its assigned percentage and the percentage of the letter grade above it.
  • For example, if A = 85% (3.7 GPA) and A+ = 90% (4.0 GPA), then any percentage between 85–89% would be assigned an A (3.7 GPA).

Editing the Course Grading Scale

  • Navigate to Institution Config / Courses / Grading Scale.
  • To adjust percentages or grade points, update the values in the Percentage (%) or Grade Point (GP) fields.
  • To disable a letter grade, uncheck the box in the Enabled column.
  • Click Update Scale to save changes.

Custom Course Grading Scales

You can create custom grading scales to be used alongside the built-in grading scale. Custom grading scales allow institutions to define their own grading structures based on their specific requirements.
