External LTI
ampEducator currently supports LTI 1.1, allowing you to integrate external Learning Tools Interoperability (LTI) tools into the platform. This enables seamless communication between ampEducator and other learning tools or services, allowing instructors and students to access and use external content within their courses.
To get started with External LTI tools, you'll need to configure them in the Institution Config section. Navigate to the Courses section and click on the LTI tab to begin setup.

Once there, click on New External Tool to add a new LTI tool. You will be required to fill out the following details:
- URL: Enter the URL for the tool, which should begin with http:// or https://.
- Consumer Key: The key provided by the LTI tool for your account.
- Shared Secret: The secret provided by the LTI tool for your account.
- Custom Parameters: Any custom parameters required by the tool, in key=value format.
- Share Name/Email: If enabled, ampEducator will pass the user's name and email to the external tool.
- Accept Grades: If enabled, instructors will be able to map the external tool to a grade item in the course gradebook. Updating the item in the tool will also update the grade in ampEducator.
After filling in these details, click Add to save the LTI tool configuration.
Once the LTI tool is set up, you can add it to any course within ampEducator by going to the LMS tab and selecting the External LTI section. From here, you can choose from the list of available LTI tools you've set up.

When adding an LTI tool to a course, you can configure the following:
- Link Only:If the LTI tool does not need to report grades, such as a forum or resource (e.g., books), you can select Link Only. To do this, click on the More Actions button and select New External LTI Tool Link Only. This option allows you to add a link to the external resource without linking it to the gradebook. This way, students can access the external resource directly, but no grade data will be shared or displayed in ampEducator.
- Grade Settings: If the LTI tool does provide grades, click on the New External LTI Tool button to set it up. You can then assign a description, grade weight, and passing mark for the tool. The Grade Link Type will be set to External LTI Tool, and you can choose the tool from the list of External LTIs you have previously configured.
